This work resulted in the current programme that was started in 2005, and in 2007, the area was defined as a SEAPOP key site. Horsv\u00e6r was protected in 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<h3 class=\"mt-0 wp-block-heading\">Location and description<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sizing-medium\">Horsv\u00e6r (65\u00b0 18\u2032 36\u2033 N, 11\u00b0 38\u2032 24\u2033 E) is divided into South- and North-Horsv\u00e6r. The archipelago includes both flat islands with significant vegetation and rocky islets. The vegetation is typical for the coastal landscape in this region with different grass species. In good years, up to 400 pairs breed in 7-8 sub-colonies have been counted although the numbers vary a lot from year to year. In 2013, there were only 18 nests in the entire colony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-sizing-medium\">Horsv\u00e6r is also a very important breeding area for many other gulls species including common gull&nbsp;<em>Larus canus<\/em>, herring gull&nbsp;<em>L. argentatus<\/em>&nbsp;and great black-backed gull&nbsp;<em>L. marinus<\/em>. This includes a fieldwork period from June to the end of July to ring gull chicks. The fieldworkers collect data to calculate adult survival, clutch size, recruitment and breeding numbers of lesser black-backed gulls, as well as take diet samples.
